Remember that APANA is strictly non-profit and non-commercial. Its network and services may only be used for personal, non-profit and non-commercial purposes.

APANA Membership

If you require access of any of the services offered by APANA, you must be a member of APANA. You must agree to abide by the terms of APANA's Acceptable Use Policy

Fill out an application form and send it in to APANA with the appropriate fee. Note that this is seperate from any application form and/or fee that may required by a public access site.

An application form and copies of APANA's Rules, Statement of Purpose and Acceptable Use Policy can be obtained from the APANA Home Page. You can also try our Online Membership Application which will e-mail you a completed application form that you just need to sign and post back to us.

Internet Connections

APANA Melbourne provides internet connections via two ADSL providers. By getting a connection through APANA you will have access to APANA benefits such as adidtional static IP addresses, the APANA dns, APANA news servers etc.

ADSL

The APANA ADSL connections provide a standard ADSL connections with support for multiple static IP addresses and additional services such as access to the APANA domain names.

isp.net.au

isp.net.au connections are avaiable at the standard isp.net.au prices. A single static IP address from the isp.net.au address range is included. Additional static IP addresses can be provided from the APANA IP address range. All ADSL traffic is routed to isp.net.au in Sydney before going out to the rest of the internet (regardless of where in the country you are located.)

theplanet.net.au

theplanet.net.au connections are available for $5/month above the standard theplanet.net.au prices. A single static IP address from the theplanet.net.au address range is included. Additional static IP addresses can be provided from the APANA IP address range, and this is what the additional $5/month is for.

Internet Services

Additional internet services list here are generally available to all APANA Melbourne members (some restrictions may apply, and they are listed below).

DNS Entries

DNS entries in the APANA zone, (incl. CNAMES, MX records as well as A and AAAA records) are available to full APANA members only. All requests for new and modified entries should be directed to hostmaster@melb.apana.org.au.

Reverse DNS Entries

Reverse DNS entries are available for APANA provided IP addresses. All requests for new and altered entries should be directed to hostmaster@melb.apana.org.au.

Dynamic DNS

A dynamic DNS service is available for all users, regardless of which ISP they are with. This services provides for any name in the .apana.org.au domain to be used as a dynamic name for users who only have a dynamic IP.

Static IP addresses

Additional static IP addresses are available with suffucient justification (and yes, any sort of experimentation is generally a good enough reason). Generally a /29 subnet (8 addreses) will be made available to anyone who wants APANA provided addresses.

To make use of these additional IP addresses you need one of the following:

• An internet connection provided by one of the ISPs that APANA Melbourne has agreements with. (isp.net.au or theplanet.net.au); or
• A VPN connection to the APANA Melbourne VPN server.

USENET News

The APANA melbourne news server provides access to a set of apana.* newsgroups for discussion about APANA related matters and for technical discussion amongst APANA members.

The melboure region mail server, which handles all mail for the melb.apana.org.au domain, including mailing lists.

news.melb.apana.org.au

The news server is available for access to the apana.* news groups.

The main web server providing APANA melbourne information.
